A Writer's New Year Goals

As 2015 is rampantly coming it is our goal to get all writing deadlines finish before the new year. Writers constantly struggle with the right words, eye catching phrases and hooks to draw readers into their world.  I am serious about my writing career becoming something fulltime beyond an expensive hobby. In order to make my writing a fulltime career I have to become serious about changing my writing habits. Gone are the days where I just write to write now I write to breathe, eat and live.

Writing is a passion that I cannot turn off. I want people to be inspired, renewed and feel a sense of comfort when they read my art. Writing is written art because we paint pictures with our words. Below, I have listed a few goals for the new year in my writing career. If you are a writer I encourage you to write down your goals and become intentional to follow through on making your writing career a dream come true.

New Year Goals.....

1) Take a writing course. I plan to take a travel writing course to merge the two things I love travel & writing.

2) Go to a conference. I have been searching high and low for a conference I can attend either for blogging or self publishing. This year I plan to attend a conference in theses genres near my area.

3) Complete my book I am way behind on completing some chapters for my new book project. I have to play catch up in January.

4) Be a guest blogger. I have been a consistent contributor on Mind Of A Diva blog, in 2015 I want to expand my writing voice to connect with other bloggers as well.

5) International Blogger. It is my intention to create a international writing brand by connecting my writing more to international bloggers.

6) Republish my book. In 2012, I wrote my first inspiring book "The Inspirational Corner" but it did not go anywhere so in my attempt to repolish it I will be republishing my book to add up to date things to it.

Mindset Ready For 2015!

In a small remote corner I sit listening to quietness as I begin to collect my thoughts to write this post. I was thirsty to write for the last couple of days but it seems as if distractions would get in my way. So, today I finally committed to writing a post before 2014 slips quietly in the background. Every year I plan my New Year's Eve getaway with my daughter but this year I find myself in a holding pattern simply resting for this New Year's Eve festive. My daughter was not happy that we were going to be staying home this year.

However, I always spend my life chasing the next adventure. It seems fitting to sit still and bring in the new year in a meditative state. I enjoy traveling yet if I am always moving how can I began to hear God's plans for my life. This year I am going to be vegging out with a friend and watching movies while our kids enjoy each other company. I even suggested to my friend that we could write our future self a letter declaring our greatness for the year ahead. I believe this will cultivate a new beginning for our lives.

Many people are declaring 2015 is their year but I am fed up with the clichés and just want to produce results in 2015. We constantly make vision boards year after year but refuse to change our mindsets. We fail to realize if our mind is not made up to live different or experience anything new then every year will be the same until we change our mind. In order for 2015 to be a new year it will be important to renew your mindset. I believe writing a letter to my future self will start 2015 in a forward motion. Whatever, your ritual or holiday tradition is to bring in the New Year I challenge you to take a couple hours to clear your mind and become intentional about creating the life you want for 2015. As you become intentional make plans to follow through with completing them to make 2015 the best year of your life!

A Writer's Christmas List

Writing is often a gift that comes with the dancing of words parading through our minds. Instead of enjoying counting reindeers while we sleep words are being count to fill the page for our next writing project. We are consistently determined to make personal and professional deadlines for our next book, novel, article or blog post. As Christmas is making her grand entrance writers like me, are using this time to get away from the family gatherings to find a quiet corner to write down all our thoughts.

When you wonder what really goes on in a writer's head you will be surprised to know writer's never sleep. We spend countless hours conceptualizing ideas in our head. We read the same sentence over and over again making sure it expresses our thoughts in the manner we want readers to receive it. If we are working on our next novel then characters start to appear in our minds, talking to us as if they were real. Some may believe we are truly insane but our minds are always creating, correcting and cultivating new material. Nevertheless, words have become the thieves that steal our rest at bedtime.

However, in spite of our sleepless patterns we need a break just like the next person and so we want things for Christmas that will cater to our creativity. Below I have manifested a list of possible Christmas items to give to the writer in your life:

Writer's Christmas List

1. A pretty journal or inspirational journal. All writers thought form better when there journal design is impeccable.

2. Cool Pens. Every writer needs that certain pen that would set fire to their words.

3. Nice Dictionary/ Thesaurus. Not just any dictionary or thesaurus but all writers need the best dictionary or thesaurus that stops them from using the same word over and over and over and over and over again.

4. Favorite book by their favorite author. All writers or maybe the highest percentage of writers love to read a good book by their favorite author.

5. Sleep. Giving a writer a nice comfortable pillow with a matching blanket would be ideal.

6. Candles. Candles create the right ambiance to inspire the writer's mood. I suggest lavender for relaxation.

7. Complete Silence. Some writers just want to be able to write in silence. This is a priceless gift for me.

8. Favorite Beverage. Hot Coco, tea or wine are all great beverages to get the writing juices flowing.

9. Soft Music. Classical, jazz or maybe your favorite old school tunes has the capacity to energize your mind.

10. A Great Desk Lap/Light. Those of us who have created our creative sanctuary a desk lap or light would be convenient for a midnight rendezvous with our pen and paper.

Clear The Clutter

In the last few weeks the sparkle has dimmed which has made me feel like I have been running rampant on the carousel of life. It has been filled with noise that has caused distractions, interruptions and the plague of redundancy. My world began to torment me with the agony of work, school, taking care of my daughter and maintaining personal relationships. I started to search for a moment to slow down, to inhale and exhale out the mental stress. Depletion was slowly creeping in suffocating me, I needed to escape from the mental clutter. I wanted to simply breathe again.

I believe many people can relate to my experience because we all are on a quest to silence the commotion. However, silence can only be found when we start to dismiss the noise we find cramped in our mental space. Mental stress can bring on many issues from depression to PTSD (post traumatic stress syndrome). According to Pysch Central, "Stress actually has an impact on how the brain processes information and stores memories." In order to combat the pangs we feel when stressed we have to begin to take an inventory of where the clutter lies.

Here are a couple of tips to clear the clutter from your mental, emotional & physical space:

1. Take a nap. Resting is essential to refueling your mind, body and soul.

2. Schedule personal quality time. We all need to be able to take some personal moments to our self to quiet the noise around us. Make it a habit to put an appointment on the calendar just for you.

3. Choose an activity just for you. Running around on everyone schedule gets tiresome, find something you love to do that does not require you to do nothing but relax.

4. Be Selfish. In society we are programmed to believe taking care of our self is selfish however if you do not take care of you first no one else will so be selfish.

3 Reasons To Activate "The Power of Gratitude"

They are many things that have transpired over this year from Ebola to the ISIS crisis, we are overwhelmed with societal issues. However, despite the negative things that are affecting out society we can make a choice to look on the bright side and find some peace of mind. I believe many times we tend to focus more on the negative things instead of the positive things. I have found that there is an awesome power in spending time in gratitude. We always have something to be grateful for no matter what circumstances may come our way. If we are brave enough to acknowledge what we are grateful for we begin to allow more blessings to flow in our lives. When we give thanks we transform our world and give God the permission to bless our lives abundantly.Gratitude is your connection to a happier life.
Below I have listed three reasons why you need to tap into the power of gratitude.

1.  Your situation could be worse. Oftentimes we are so consumed with our problems that we do not realize our situations could be worst.

2. It creates  happiness. When you began to reflect or meditate on what you are thankful for you begin to create positive endorphins to your mine. According to Greater Good site, "Scientists also believe that altruistic behavior releases endorphins in the brain, producing the positive feeling known as the “helper’s high.”

3. You can experience a more abundant life. Abundance is not just about having money but it is about living life in an overflow state. When you activate the power of gratitude you will increase in stature.

The best way to start activating your gratitude power is by getting a journal and listing three things every morning that you are grateful for in your life. So, I urge to give the power of gratitude a try!

The London Sessions Album Review

I was 13 years old when I first heard her soulful voice pulsating through the radio. Her voice was raw, real and heartfelt. This is the day I became a fan of this emerging artist from the Bronx. Mary J. Blige has a way of singing every song from her soul to make you feel the words she bellow out. Her music has the capacity to move you emotionally and spiritually.

As Mary J. Blige has evolved as a person her musical style has also grown up with her. The London Sessions Album is just another form of her evolution of stepping outside the box. This album is another refreshing musical journey she has taken to appeal to her fans. The London Sessions gives us a wide range of her vocal talent. Throughout the entire album you still feel the authentic style Mary delivers to her audience. The London Sessions is another hit maker for the Queen of Hip Hop Soul!

I participated in the Mary J Blige The London Sessions album review program as a member of bLink Marketing Network. I was provided a free album to review but all opinions are my own.

I See You

“I See You”
Once in a lifetime you stumble upon movies that speak to your heart. They make an impression on your life which gives you inspiration in some form or another. There are many love stories that hit the movie screen every day but some are so transparent to the point you can actually relate to the storyline. Beyond The Lights was not just your typical love story of two people falling in love but it was a transparent love story that showed two lost people who needed to find themselves. They became each other’s hero.
I remember a time in my life where I was drowning and I needed someone to be my hero. I needed someone to save me from the life I was sinking in.  It was during the season my youngest daughter died, I needed help and no one could see me. For the last several years, I carried the pain of brokenness especially in love relationships. I built walls to protect my heart from feeling the pangs of falling in love with the wrong man.

However, spring 2014 came upon me and love blossomed with him. We crossed each other’s path unpredictably; I was not expecting him neither was he expecting me.  He told me his goal was to make me believe in love again. I was not convinced of his declaration. There was no way I was going to take him seriously at his word. I knew I was not going to put my heart on the line for love again. Yet, eight months later he proved me wrong and he made me believe in love again.

I was scared to take a risk because I feared love but there is no fear in love. He became my hero and I became his hero. I never had someone who could see my soul. I see you Kaz told Noni Jean in the movie, which is a powerful statement. True love will allow you to see right through the walls someone builds.

He saw right through me, he could see me!

Shifting Into A New Beginning

As the holidays vastly approach we find ourselves preparing for holiday cooking, holiday shopping and figuring out what we will do for the New Year. However, instead of waiting until the holidays or waiting to make a New Year’s resolution you can take the time to shift your life into a new beginning. Recently, I was faced with the fact that I needed a change so my daughter and I decided to jump on the road to Columbia, which is only an hour in a half from where I live. It was a drive that I needed  to clear my mind and shift into my new life. Sometimes in order to take a leap into new beginnings we have to stop looking backwards. When you look backwards it only stifles the growth process.
It can be scary to decide to make a new start in your life but in the end you will feel rejuvenated . Rejuvenation creates a sense of refreshment bringing renewal to your life. No one can embrace new beginnings until they make a decision to move forward from the past. It is important in the last month of this year you begin to look forward, think of all the possibilities your life can bring by accepting a place of newness. Below are a couple tips to help you shift into a new beginning before the New Year.

Tips Into Shifting Into A New Beginning
Launch Out. Stop second guessing yourself and take a leap of faith, launch out into the deep. We often allow fear to hold us back from unfamiliarity but let the unknown be your fuel to push you forward.

Embrace Newness. Do not fight the new but embrace it because when you embrace new things then you can enlarge your life in greater ways.
Change is Good. We often fight change but change is always good. It helps us grow and evolve into a better person.
Why Wait Start Now. Do not wait until a perfect moment or time to start, life is waiting for you to live it to the fullest. The moment is now!

The moment is now shift into your new place!

Unpacking The Baggage

Life is filled with lessons things we learn through trial and error. Sometimes we find ourselves walking through a path no one can else walk with us. We can get use to running to our friends and family for advice but sometimes we need to sort out things on our own. I found myself in this situation for the last two weeks sorting through some unpredictable things in my life. I made a decision to take the time to confront some issues and unpack the weights that were holding me down. I found myself looking aimlessly at the water as the waves splash against the shore. My emotional baggage was weighing me down.

On a beautiful Wednesday morning I made a decision to erase the tears of the past and embrace the joy of the future. I was saying goodbye to the past embracing a new hello for my future. I did not want new people to pay for the crime of old people in my past. Today, I was taking a stand to tell fear I was no longer scared of the unknown. I slowly approached the water and released the square pieces of paper where I wrote all my fears relinquishing them into the ocean as waves rushed up to me.

In a quick instance I found myself picking up the baggage again a soft still voice insisted to put the baggage down. This time I wanted to stay free, free from the emotional barriers that kept me from loving fearlessly, living life fearlessly. I needed this moment to regain a sense of power knowing that I can remain free because freedom is a choice. It felt invigorating to unpack my bags, walk away and leave them in the sea of forgetfulness. I have to make a choice everyday to keep the baggage where it belongs. I can no longer pick it up anymore it slowed me down on my journey. Unpack your bags......

Unpacking The Baggage

Life is filled with lessons things we learn through trial and error. Sometimes we find ourselves walking through a path no one can else walk with us. 5 Tips on Living an Effortless Life

Life can be stressful but in the midst of it all you have to learn to be flexible. The most important key is to let life flow because in reality you cannot control everything. Life is more fun when you take a step back, process what is happening and let the results play out. The less you stress over life the more happier you will be!

Below are five steps to start you on your journey to live life effortlessly:

Tips To Living An Effortless Life
Tip #1: Let Go, Let God. Although this saying is cliché it has a lot of truth and meaning to it literally. The more you let go of your life plan the more you make room for some fun plans God has for your life. It is less stress in your life when you let go!
Tip 2#: Be Flexible. You can plan your entire life for the next five years but guess what nothing will go as planned. There will always be something interrupting your plans. Instead of allowing the interruptions to upset you allow them to help you become more open-minded.
Tip 3#: Let It Be. These are three powerful words so instead of fighting a mental, emotional, physical and spiritual battle that will leave you exhausted focus your energy on the important things in life. Sometimes you have to let situations run their own course. Step back, process and let it play out!

Tip #4: Be at peace. Peace will keep you sane in the insane moments. Do not let outside forces disturb your peace. Peace is an option so choose it every time life throws challenges your way.
Tip#5: Have fun. Do not let life get the best of you make it an adventure. Things will happen in life but spend more time laughing, playing and enjoying all that it has to offer.

Resilience: The Ability to Bounce Back!

In the past several months I have personally endured things that have challenged me, made me cry, mentally wore me down and made me wonder where was my life headed. However, through all the cloudy days in my life God has consistently allowed the sun to peak through on certain occasions. The tough patches in my life has made me resilient and taught me valuable lessons about myself.

I believe the biggest lesson I have learn is that rainy days are preparation for the beautiful sunny days. Nothing we go through in life is permanent. We do not have to embrace the negative days but we can gracefully go through the process  understanding something greater will be manifested out of the pain. I believe pain is the catalyst utilized to shift us into our predestined place .

During my wilderness experience I knew how important it was to change my mindset. Our mindset or mental view of what we see can defeat us or we can defeat it. In spite of the negative attacks I learned that I did not have to settle for what was being handed to me. Often in life we become comfortable in our struggle. We sometimes allow our identity to become our struggle.

Life troubles will not dissipate but you can decide to maintain your joy in spite of hardship. During the difficult seasons of my life I have learn to cultivate a stronger spiritual relationship. While cultivating a more intimate spiritual bond I have learn that God gives us strength in the midst of our weak moments. Resilience is the power of elasticity. When you are bent, stretched, pulled or twisted out of your regular form resilience gives you buoyancy through the storm.

No matter how hard life may get remember these three important things:
  • Nothing in life is permanent.
  • Change your mind change your life.
  • Resilience is the bridge to keep you from gaping.
So, when life gets a little uncomfortable make it up in your mind to endure the process gracefully with a dose of resilience!

7 Things You Need To Do Before Summer Ends

As summer slowly sips in the cracks of yesteryear there are still a couple of more weeks to enjoy the hot weather before autumn makes her star studded appearance. Although, summer comes and goes quickly you still have time to get a little more sun, enjoy the beach and make some vacation plans with your loved ones. Summer is not yet over so keep your sundresses in rotation, put on your favorite sandals and protect your skin with your favorite sunscreen. Enjoy all of what summer has to give even in the last moments. Below are five things you can do before the days get shorter and nights become longer.

7 Things You Need To Do Before Summer Ends
1. Go to the beach one more time. As the temperature starts to drop down a little this is the perfect time to pack a cooler, take your favorite magazine and watch the waves.
2. Plan a road trip. Although, in the southern states kids have already started to go back to school you can still take advantage of the long weekend holidays such as Labor Day to take a road trip.
3. Wear your favorite summer dress. It is not cold yet so why are you bringing out the sweater. Put your fall clothes away and wear your cute summer dress. If you live down south summer never truly ends so keep your summer clothes in rotation.
4. Read your favorite book. You still can find some quiet moments to slip away and read your favorite book.
5. Enjoy the sunrise and sunset. Before the days get shorter and nights get longer enjoy the sunrise and be grateful to see the sunset.
6. Do some summer cleaning. So many people spring clean but I believe it is essential to clean out the old every season in order to make room for the new.
7. Summer shopping. As summer comes to an end on September 22nd (the 1st day of Fall) find time to catch all the last minute deals of the summer as you prepare your wardrobe for next year.

After you have completed these seven things you truly will be prepared to embrace your Fall season.
